Weddings:

Christel & Iwan :: Matjiesfontein :: Part I

21st October, 2011

Matjiesfontein. Tony Cox. Sweetest couple in love. Loving Family and friends.

Mix all those ingredients together and the result is an unforgettable celebration of love.

Matjiesfontein is a tiny Victorian village in the Klein Karoo. Visiting this magical place with the richest of history is literally like stepping back in time. It’s charming. It has stole my heart.

Christel & Iwan successfully pulled the old wordly theme off with the decor. Saturday evening I kinda felt like a pleb with a camera amongst all the Lords and honorable ladies!

Friends and family of Christel & Iwan came down with the train all the way from Pretoria, staying for the weekend in the Lord Milner Hotel. There’s even the Afrikaans song “trein na Matjiesfontein” from Sonja Herholdt. Feeling a hint of nostalgia as I am writing this, remembering my mom playing it when we were little, singing happily along tjoek tjoek tjoeeeek…tjoek tjoek tjoeeeek. {I am listening to it now}

Christel kicked off the weekend with a surprise gig for Iwan by SA’s finest acoustic guitarist, Tony Cox.

Iwan is Tony’s biggest fan. EVER. One of their close friends, Vivienne humorously told me how Iwan only wants to listen to Tony at parties. Christel kept this secret..mmhh secret from Iwan for 6 entire months! Wow, just this fact makes my admiration for Christel grow to enormousosity. {I can so not even aspire to planning that so well}

Can you just imagine Iwan’s face as he walked in for Friday night’s dinner, only to see THE Tony ready to play just for him. There were a few happy tears, I even sneakily tucked one away, even Marisa, my assistant admitted later the same. It was just perfect.

The Saturday of the wedding, Christel and Iwan opted for a first look before the ceremony, as they wanted to spend more time with the guests. Personally I love this. It’s so real & intimate. Just check it out when you scroll down.

Here are a few of my favourites. Please check back soon for Part II, coming soon
